Music - we all love it, but don't we take it for granted? Â If we don't like a tune, or a genre on the radio, then a simple turn of the dial or new URL address for those who listen online takes us away from one type and on to another... Music itself is used by many all around the world, but in the developing world, the electronic production and distribution of music is not as readily available as it is for us here in the UK.
Understanding this lack of facilities is what caused the people behind FairTunes to establish the charity. Set up in 2009 and predominantly concentrating on the developing world, the charity has successfully established recording facilities and online radio stations in countries including Colombia and Algeria,
Also, as a mobile unit, the studios can be taken to the youth groups, outreach projects and other areas where young people can be engaged to learn real world skills in the music and radio industry that can ultimately lead to further opportunities to progress their lives. Our vision is to mobilise local talent and help musicians, artists and other members of the community fulfill their potential. We want to provide the opportunity for individuals to learn new skillsets and enable impoverished communities to develop artistically.
The ultimate aim of FairTunes is to leave the community with the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain the facilities and resources we have established, as well as the skills to pass on to others.  In this way we create a self-sustaining cycle that will empower the programme's participants and a reciprocal network of teaching and learning.  Web site: http://www.fairtunes.org  Listen to our amazing Spanish language programmes recorded by our radio students in El Salado, Colombia.
